Comparative effectiveness of technology in evaluation of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under irrigation in republic of Nigeria

Study was conducted at the experimental site of Fadama farm, outskirts of Bauchi local government area, Bauchi State Gwallagwa mayaka, Republic of Nigeria, during the dry seasons of 2013 and 2014. To evaluate the performance of tillage operations, sowing methods and poultry manure on the growth and yield of spring wheat (Triticum L) under irrigation. The treatments comprised of conventional tillage and no-till, Three sowing methods, Drilling, Dibbling and Broadcasting and five different levels of poultry manure ( 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10 t/ha). Variety used was Atilla Gan Atilla were obtained from Lake Chad Maiduguri. All the treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design (R C B D) with three replications. The parameters observed were toxicity of the soil, biological activity of the soil, field germination, plant density, plant height, leaf area, root weight and yield. The result of the two years experiment showed that, higher quantitative and qualitative yield was obtained on the cultivation of spring wheat in no-till, dibbling method sowing and with application of 10 t / ha of poultry manure.
