Slope mesorelief influence on seasonal dynamics of the integrated soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes from Sod- and Peat-Podzoluvisols in the background forest ecosystems in Moscow North

There are results of seasonal ecological monitoring of soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes in five low-contrast elements of the hollow hilly slope mesorelief with Sod- and Peat-Podzoluvisols in the conditions of representative background ecosystems of the Forest Experimental Station of the Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. The dominant soil CO2 flux in the conditions of the investigated ecosystems is emission, with a obvious spatial differentiation of its seasonal and annual intensity by forms of mesorelief, which is associated with two-fold spatial variation of annual CO2 emission and three-fold – in the autumn. The dominant soil CH4 flux in the conditions of the investigated ecosystems is sink, with increased dynamics of spatial differentiation of its seasonal and annual intensity by forms of mesorelief. The analysis of the principal limiting environmental factors of soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes with an assessment of the correlation between them, was carried out under the conditions of two years with contrasting weather conditions. The main factor of the seasonal dynamics of soil CO2 emission is the temperature of topsoil horizons: with predominance of the positive correlation values localized for the main mesorelief forms in summer period from 0.64 to 0.91, in autumn one – from 0.62 to 0.91. The main factor of seasonal dynamics of soil CH4 flux is topsoil moisture: with predominance of localized for the main forms of mesorelief values of positive correlation in the early summer period from 0.86 to 0.98, with a high spatial differentiation of positive and negative correlations in the autumn – from 0.86 to -0.98. There is shown the significant influence of low-contrast slope elements of the characteristic for the Northern part of the Moscow megalopolis mesorelief on the spatial differentiation and seasonal dynamics of soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes in the conditions of forest ecosystems background for this territory.
