Oats breeding for stability to head diseases in the “Omsk ASC” with the use the genofond of the global collection of the VNIIR
The long-term results of the evaluation of oat samples from the VNIIR world collection for local natural populations of smut diseases in the Omsk Region are presented, taking into account changes in the virulence of the pathogens. The annual monitoring of the virulence of oats smut pathogens recorded changes in the racial composition and Ustilago avenae Jens. and Ustilago kolleri Wille., starting in 2011, which was reflected in overcoming the resistance of previously immune varieties. Isolated samples with different levels of resistance to these pathogens were included in the hybridization. The immune lines created with the participation of these varieties are currently being tested in breeding nurseries.
