Comparative analysis of pigment complex of flag leaves in naked and covered oats

In a series of 2015-2017 field experiments on sod-podzolic middle clay soil 10 breeding samples of covered and 7 breeding samples of naked oats were grew up. The conducted researches showed significant differences in structural and quantitative structure of a pigment complex of flag leaves in naked and covered samples of oats in a blossoming phase. Covered forms contained 12.54 ± 0.35 mg of a chlorophyll a in gram of dry matter, and naked forms – 13.10 ± 0.32 mg. Significant distinctions in quantitative distribution of pigments between the reactionary centers (RC) of photosystems and their light-harvesting complexes (LHC) are noted. Naked samples contained statistically higher quantity of a pigment as a part of LHC, and covered forms - in the reactionary centers of photosystems: in LHC – 9.53 ± 0.30 and 8.44 ± 0.30 mg/g, in RCs – 3.57 ± 0.07 and 4.11 ± 0.10 mg/g respectively. The most part of a chlorophyll a in RCs of photosystems in covered oats can be the cause of differences in the average grain mass per panicle in covered and naked samples (1.76 ± 0.02 and 1.37 ± 0.02 g accordingly) and of 1000-grain mass (38.56 ± 0.32 for covered and 29.70 ± 0.32 g for naked samples). The average content of a chlorophyll b in leaves of covered oats (7.03 ± 0.25 mg/g) was 13.1% lower, than at naked one (7.95 ± 0.25 mg/g) that also demonstrates smaller efficiency of transformation of solar energy to organic substance in flag leaves chloroplasts in naked oat samples in comparison with covered one. Differences in a mass ratio of a chlorophyll a/b (1.73 ± 0.02 at naked samples and 1.92 ± 0.04 at covered samples) also indicate bigger size of antenna complexes of photosystem II in naked oats. Statistically significant differences in the content of carotinoids between naked and covered oats were not revealed; content was, respectively, 3.15 ± 0.05 and 3.18 ± 0.08 mg/g of dry matter. The mass ratio chlorophyll / carotinoids was higher at naked oats, than at covered one: respectively 6.65 ± 0.08 and 6.09 ± 0.10. Thus, pigment complexes of flag leaves of covered and naked samples of oats differ not only according to quantitative contents, but also on the structural organization.
