The formation and accumulation of catechin components in tea microplants under in vitro induced osmotic stress

The various components of the catechin group (epicatechin, gallocatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechingallate, epigallocatechin gallate) in micropropagated tea plants under osmotic stress induced by mannitol, sodium chloride and calcium chloride in various concentrations was studied. It was revealed that osmotic stress induces the accumulation of simple catechins (epicatechin, gallocatechin, epigallocatechin) in leaves, while the content of gallated catechins (epicatechingallate, epigallocatechin gallate) was decreased. The ratio of simple catechins to gallates was significantly lower (0.7-1.6) under optimal conditions compared with stress conditions (2.2-3.7) caused by the addition of osmotics to the nutrient medium.
