The cultivation of various varieties of grain sorghum on light chestnut soils of the semi-desert zone

The work presents the results of the agroecological variety testing of grain sorghum in arid conditions of the Republic of Kalmykia. The influence of various methods of primary tillage on the formation of the production process and the productivity of grain sorghum is shown. It has been established that in mid-ripening varieties the best option for primary tillage, which promotes the formation of productivity, is “autumn plowing," while the variety Zernogradskoye 53 (st) had a grain yield of 2.67-2.94 t / ha, and the variety Zerst 99 2.94-3.23 t / ha. For early-ripening varieties of grain sorghum Orlovskoye (st) and Composition, the best option is “flat cutting”, providing yields of 2.47 and 2.53 t / ha, respectively.
