Zoning of the Central Federal Region territory by a set of silviculture and climate indicators

The article is aimed at zoning of the RF Central Federal Region (CFR) territory by a set of silviculture and climate indicators. According to G.N. Vysotsky, G.V. Dobrovolsky and I.S. Urusevskaya, bioresource and ecological zoning is determined by a set of mutually dependent natural bioclimatic factors, that is turning to the distribution scheme of natural zones which is still actual now. The forest zoning issue has more than a century of its history. Nevertheless, the justification of its scientific and methodological principles and solutions is still an urgent task. Statistically reliable allocation of homogeneous forest territories by a set of indicators should regulate the use of normative reference materials and legislative acts on the forest assessment, protection and reproduction, that is the base of environmentally reasonable forest management and exploitation in general. The proposed scheme of the silviculture and climatic zoning is based on the average multi-year data of the climate and wood productivity for main forest-forming tree species, that have been calculated at taxon level in all administrative regions of the CFR. Stage-by-stage taxon combining (classifying) into specific areas has been done by factor, cluster, and discriminant analyses. Highlighting 2 principal factors-components combining 16 variables lets us to explain 82.3% of the initial data variation in wood productivity. Then 4 forestry-climatic areas were identified in the Central Federal Region by cluster analysis. The reliability of the clustering and final classification of the CFR administrative regions was confirmed by discriminant analysis criteria
