Possibilities of using a digital elevation model in large-scale soil mapping (Perm district of the Perm region)

The article presents the results of large-scale soil mapping based on a digital elevation model. The aim of the research is to study the possibility of using the DEM classification by the Based Landform Classification method in large-scale soil mapping. The research area covers an area of 150 hectares, which is located in the Perm rayon of the Perm region. The initial cartographic base represents the result of calculating relief elements using the Based Landform Classification method in the SAGA geographic information system. ALOS 30 was used as a digital elevation model. During the field survey, the relationship of soil types with Landform coverage was established, which made it possible to extrapolate the data to some areas. As a result of comparison with a large-scale soil map made by the traditional method, it was found that the number of soil EPA increased by 5 times. The best interconnection of relief elements is observed for sod-gley soils and sod-brown soils.
